Sweden did not pursue herd immunity, says diplomat

The comments come as more countries turn to Sweden's non-lockdown approach for inspiration to manage the Covid-19 pandemic

The Swedish ambassador to the UK said that his government did not pursue a “herd immunity strategy” to manage the Covid-19 pandemic.

The controversial strategy — which is commonly understood to mean allowing the virus to circulate freely until a large proportion of the population has built up natural immunity — was reportedly considered by several governments early on in the pandemic.
