Swiss refuse to move in EU banking row

Switzerland will this week try again to convince the European Union of the merits of its compromise offer to deal with tax evasion by EU citizens instead of agreeing to an automatic exchange of information.

The EU wants Switzerland to automatically pass on information of EU residents' savings in Swiss bank accounts to clamp down on tax evasion. Bern has resisted, saying this would undermine its banking secrecy.
