For an industry that makes its living from negotiating trades for others, interdealer-brokerages seem to be less adroit when it comes to striking them on their account.

The five large interdealer-brokers - Icap, Tradition, GFI Group, BGC Partners and Tullett Prebon - have only reached their size and stature through acquisitions of, and mergers with, smaller firms.
