Telefónica, the Spanish telecommunications company, on Wednesday confirmed it was pressing ahead with the sale of Moviles, its mobile phone unit, in a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Telefónica said it would be selling a maximum of a 12% stake in Moviles, Spain's largest mobile phone company, in an initial public offering scheduled for next month. The company also suggested it would dispose of no less than 10%.
