Telstra, Australia's largest telecoms provider, launched a bond issue worth €1.5bn ($1.27bn) into a bond market that has been unsettled by a gloomy outlook for the telecoms sector as a whole.

The secondary bond market for telecoms companies has been volatile in recent trading sessions, largely due to shockwaves from last week's profit warning by Nortel Networks, the Canadian telephone equipment manufacturer.
