The decline and fall of European investment banks

In the first half of the year, it looked like the big US banks had taken advantage of the weakness of their European rivals

Considering how “anti-American” the process of regulatory reform is supposed to be, US investment banks seem to be doing remarkably well.

In the first half of this year, the big five star-spangled investment banks increased their market share of global investment banking fees to 35% (up from 29% over the same period last year), according to Dealogic. Their big five European rivals were way behind on less than 20%.
