After years of struggling to prove the worth of Japanese bank Nomura's international business, the group's latest results marked a milestone. But amid a bright future, one spot remains dark.

In the 12 months to March 31, the bank’s businesses outside of Japan delivered combined profits of ¥88.1bn, or almost $800m, reversing several years of annual losses.
