The Malaysian attorney general taking on Goldman Sachs

The lawyer has been called a 'whale hunter' for his aggressive pursuit of alleged corruption in the 1MDB scandal

Tommy Thomas, the attorney general of Malaysia, has been propelled onto the international stage by his investigation of Goldman Sachs for its alleged involvement in a multibillion-dollar financial scandal.

On August 9, Thomas’s office made headlines when they filed criminal charges against 17 current and former Goldman executives for alleged misconduct while helping to raise $6.5bn for 1Malaysia Development Berhad, a sovereign wealth fund.
