The network economy must defend itself against attacks

Loss of voice and data links in New York's September tragedy showed a weakness in the system

The terrible tragedy of September 11 is likely to be remembered as the defining moment of our time. The human loss is numbing. Like the raid on Pearl Harbour and the ensuing immersion of the United States in World War II, September 11, 2001 is almost certain to define where and how most of us go from here.

The destruction and days immediately following the tragedy also illustrate the need to redefine how we defend the 21st century economy and its businesses.
