The City’s reaction to the appointment of one of their own as the UK’s new chancellor has been muted, but many will hope his background in banking is good news for the Square Mile.

Sajid Javid, who was put in charge of the UK’s purse strings on July 25 by new prime minister Boris Johnson, is the first person from an ethnic minority background to hold the office of chancellor of the exchequer.
