Anyone in any doubt over when mañana actually happens should look to La Caixa's latest SEC filings. Getting round to mañana at Spain's largest savings bank takes about 10 years.

Last week, the Catalan savings group lodged two 13D statements with the US Securities and Exchange Commission – filings that the SEC requires companies to make within 10 days of acquiring more than 5% of another company's stock. The January 30 documents relate to purchases made in 1996 that brought La Caixa's Repsol and Telefónica holdings to above the 5% threshold. Why do today what you can always put off until tomorrow.
