The Village

There were signs last week that those blue-blooded types at Cazenove, the posh UK stock broker, might be a little racier than their staid image suggests.

Now that Cazenove is incorporated and heading for flotation – if it doesn't succumb to the courting of Lehman Brothers first – its full name is Cazenove Group plc. Officially, its former name is… Rocket Jasper plc. Has the firm had an attack of corporate rebranding? Was it a code name for the IPO? Are Rocket and Jasper the favourite dogs of chairman David Mayhew? Sadly, the answer is more prosaic. Rocket Jasper was a ready-formed shell company that Cazenove bought off the shelf to save its busy corporate financiers the hassle of having to create one.
