Perhaps stock market traders should be looking at crime statistics as a leading indicator. It seems that crooks were the first to become disillusioned with the internet, dropping out faster than investors amid the collapse in telecoms, media and technology stocks. Last year, credit card losses resulting from internet fraud grew slower than any other credit card swindle, according to the Association for Payment Clearing Services. The biggest losses now come from organised crime.
