WestLB has named Thomas Fischer as its new chief executive, taking over from Johannes Ringel, who has been acting as interim chief since Jürgen Sengera stepped down in the wake of a critical regulatory report.

Fischer is a former member of Deutsche Bank's management board. He lost out to Josef Ackermann as Deutsche Bank's chief executive and has since been occupying a consulting role.
