Peter Thompson, new chairman of the National Association of Pension Funds, has called for the prompt removal of the Minimum Fund Requirement and a review of the way in which people are obliged to retire by the age of 65.
At the annual NAPF conference in Birmingham, Thompson said: "There is a widely held belief that steps must be taken in the very short term - certainly before the two years implied by the Parliamentary timetable - to relieve defined benefit schemes of the burden of this (MFR) standard.
