It seems appropriate that in the week financial markets await the latest consultation on Europe’s securities trading rulebook, news has emerged that a new equities trading venue is in the works.

A consortium of large European investment banks and asset managers have come together under an initiative called the Plato Partnership to launch a new trading platform for equities, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.
