UK lawmakers have voted to derail prime minister Boris Johnson’s plan to have parliament approve his revised Brexit deal and take the country out of the EU at the end of the month.

The result of Saturday's vote on the Letwin amendment prolongs the short-term political and economic uncertainty. It means Johnson must abide by a law forcing him to request another extension from Brussels to Article 50, thus pushing Brexit beyond October 31.
