Fifty of the world's top banks on Tuesday formed Atriax, a fully electronic, internet-based marketplace for foreign exchange trading.

The founders of Atriax, which include Chase Manhattan, Citibank and Deutsche Bank, between them account for more than half of all foreign exchange dealing, reckoned to be worth more than $1.5 trillion (€1.78 trillion] a day.
