The Tower of London could be stripped of its World Heritage status because new skyscrapers in the Square Mile are spoiling views of the iconic site, according to the charity that runs the historic landmark.

Worries about the heritage status of the centuries-old tower have peaked after the City of London Corporation approved the Tulip, a 305m-high skyscraper designed by acclaimed architect Norman Foster, in April. The building will be the tallest in a group of towers that has become known as the eastern cluster and is home to buildings colloquially known as the Cheesegrater and Walkie Talkie.
