Trade financiers optimistic of winning Basel III exemption

The trade finance industry may yet win an exemption for some trade finance products under new rules proposed by Basel III, according to the president and chief operating officer of trade body BAFT-IFSA.

Industry veteran Dan Taylor, who heads the organisation formed through the merger of the Bankers' Association for Finance and Trade and the International Financial Services Association, was speaking at a panel session on the treatment of trade finance under Basel III.
