Trade of the Week: Jet fuel takes off

Jet fuel is part of the oil family but trades at a premium to the price of crude oil; so when oil prices rise, it's particularly good news for a handful of traders

Franco-Dutch airline AirFrance KLM attributed its net loss of €259m in the last quarter of 2011 to the rising cost of jet fuel. Bad news for airlines, perhaps, but profitable for others.

AirFrance KLM said its fuel bill had jumped 20% over the period.
