The increased demand for battery power in emerging markets and a surge in industrial usage in Asia have contributed to the price of lead rising in the past couple of months.

While lead's reputation has been tarnished by its toxic characteristics, it continues to be used in all batteries that go in to gasoline/diesel vehicles for starting-lighting-ignition purposes.
