Trading in New York unaffected by powercuts

Trading in New York opened normally Friday morning on both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq after the massive power failure that blacked out the entire region on Thursday afternoon.

The power failed in Manhattan and the surrounding area 11 minutes after the NYSE closed trading at 16:00 EST, so no trading was lost. Initial indications are that the contingency measures of financial services firms worked as planned, despite the extent of the powercut.
