There were jubilant scenes in TransferWise’s Shoreditch offices one afternoon recently. Taavet Hinrikus, the payment fintech’s co-founder and Estonia’s second richest man behind his co-founder Kristo Käärmann, was presiding over TransferWise’s second annual “20 Under 20” contest.
The prize — a “no strings” investment of £10,000 — had just been won by the founder of a start-up that raises awareness of the stigma around autism. Prosecco was popped and emotional calls made to relatives. Photos were posed for with the judges.
