Morgan Stanley has dismissed two staff for breaching company policy by leaking a controversial e-mail from its former star Asian economist Andy Xie that criticised Singapore to people outside the Wall Street bank.

Morgan Stanley's move comes as it has been trying to play down the furore over the leaked e-mail from Xie, which has overshadowed the bank's success in winning a coveted commercial banking licence to operate in China, ahead of several banking rivals.
