UBS chief executive Sergio Ermotti has told employees that their jobs are safe during the Covid-19 crisis, in the latest example of a large investment bank pausing a redundancy programme during the pandemic. 

Ermotti, who is stepping down from leading the Swiss bank after nine years in November, said in an email to staff on 30 March that UBS plans to suspend any redundancies until “the situation normalises”.
