UK and EU agree they want a quick Brexit deal but they disagree on everything else

With a deadline extension ruled out, both parties must be prepared to compromise

Now that they know for sure that they must conclude some form of trade deal before the end of the year, the UK and the European Union want it to be concluded as soon as possible.

At least they agree on the calendar, and on the urgency. All that is left is that small thing: the issues. The two sides didn’t make any progress during the four rounds of negotiations their teams of diplomats have held so far this year.
