UK charts record daily Covid death toll

Latest stats come amid backing for earlier re-opening of London schools

The UK has recorded the highest number of virus-related deaths since the pandemic began.

Data from Public Health England showed a further 1,610 people died within 28 days of testing positive on 18 January, the highest number of deaths on a single day since the outbreak started in March last year.
