UK fintechs brush off Brexit to secure record investment

Fintech companies in the UK attracted $4.9bn in venture capital and private equity investment in 2019

The UK’s fintech sector brushed off months of political turmoil to draw in more venture capital and private equity investment than ever before last year.

A total of $4.9bn was put into UK fintechs in 2019, up 38% on the previous year. This made the country the second most popular market for fintech investment globally behind the US with $16.3bn. It was significantly ahead of its nearest European rivals Germany and Sweden, which attracted $1.3bn and $778m, respectively.
