Parliament expected to shut a week early for Easter amid coronavirus concerns

Minister Robert Jenrick tells BBC MPs ‘will return after Easter in the usual way’

Parliament is set to close for at least four weeks from tonight, a week earlier than planned, in an extension to its planned Easter break to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus among MPs.

A motion laid before parliament this morning by Leader of the House of Commons Jacob Rees-Mogg proposes that the Commons rise, or close, after the government’s coronavirus emergency bill passes the House of Lords tonight. Parliament would remain closed until 21 April. Such order motions are passed without debate.
