The WM median return for all UK pension funds for the year to December 31 was -1.8%, slightly higher than the -2.1% estimated by investment managers for institutional balanced funds.
The -1.8% relates to the All Funds index, which includes both the WM 50 measure of the UK's largest 50 pension funds, plus the WM 2000, which represents the mainstream. The WM 50 is likely to have improved the All Funds performance marginally: "Minus 2.1%, or maybe -2.0%, looks in the right ball park for the WM 2000." says one manager.
