UK pensions regulator buoys Sea Containers rescue

The UK pensions’ supervisory body has rubber-stamped a restructuring plan for Sea Containers that marks an end to a landmark intervention on the part of the regulator in UK retirement schemes and a victory for the pension plans' members. It also ends more than two years of US bankruptcy protection for the Bermuda-based company.

Last year, the UK's Pensions Regulator complicated that process by issuing for the first and only time a "financial support direction " order and securing additional contributions from the transport shipping company to its two UK pension plans, linked to businesses Sea Containers largely no longer owns.
