A new three-tiered system of lockdown rules will be imposed across England, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has told MPs, replacing local lockdowns with a more uniform approach.

Regions of England will be divided into three stages of Covid alert levels — medium, high and very high — that come with varying degrees of restrictions on social distancing and opening hours for businesses.
