UK pushes back bank capital reforms as Basel rifts emerge

The move brings the UK into line with the US, which will also begin phasing in the rules in July 2025, but puts it out of step with the EU

The Bank of England has confirmed it will delay implementing new bank capital rules by six months.

After consulting with banks, Threadneedle Street has decided to give the City's lenders extra time to implement the so-called Basel 3.1 changes, pushing them back from 1 January to 1 July 2025.
