The UK will become the first Western government to issue renminbi-denominated sovereign debt, Chancellor George Osborne and Chinese Vice President Ma Kai jointly announced Friday.

The bond will be used to add renminbi to UK foreign exchange reserves as the currency becomes increasingly internationalized, Mr. Osborne said, addressing the media at the end of the sixth Economic and Financial Dialogue in London.
