UK urged to cut red tape

Ireland and Luxembourg aim to attract businesses with their lighter tax and regulatory regimes

The UK's National Association of Pension Funds is fighting competition from Ireland and Luxembourg by proposing cuts in regulations to make Britain a location of choice for multinational pension plans.

Robin Ellison, chairman of the association, said his organisation had made simplification of UK rules a target for the year. He said: "In Ireland there are about 200 pages of regulation, whereas in the UK there are about 8,000 pages."
