Charles Counsell, who has headed a government drive that has brought millions of new savers into pension schemes over the past six years, is moving on to pastures new.

Counsell is leaving the Pensions Regulator, where he has been executive director in charge of auto-enrolment since 2011, to become the new chief executive of the Money Advice Service, a government agency that provides free financial advice to consumers.
