UN wants big banks to help eliminate human trafficking

Financial institutions can unwittingly finance slavery and human trafficking, as traffickers move funds or seek financing

Slavery and human trafficking are a seemingly intractable problem, affecting one out of 185 people in the world.

The United Nations has already called for the end of modern slavery, forced labour and human trafficking by 2030. Now it is urging the financial services industry to play a role, with the launch of a Financial Sector Commission on Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking at the 73rd UN General Assembly.
