UniCredit's board of directors has voted unanimously to install Andrea Orcel as its new chief executive, marking an extraordinary turn of fortunes for one of Europe's best-known dealmakers.

Orcel has been confirmed as the replacement for Jean Pierre Mustier, confirming earlier reports that the 57-year-old Italian was set for the top job. The move comes around two years after his botched appointment to become CEO of Santander.
