US banks enjoy fixed-income boom

Proprietary trading and other fixed-income revenues will underpin the results of US securities firms when they report first-quarter results this week, according to bank analysts and market sources.

Bear Stearns, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley, which will post figures on Wednesday and Thursday, have enjoyed strong revenues from the bond, currency and commodity markets, according to analysts in London and New York.
