Executive compensation rose at all the largest US exchanges last year except for NYSE Euronext as merger activity swelled payouts, according to financial services investment bank Keefe, Bruyette & Woods.

Niamh Alexander, an analyst at KBW, said in a report that senior executive compensation rose by an average 36% from 2006 to last year at US exchanges.
