US stocks bounce back after Wednesday’s rout

Upbeat earnings reports calm investor nerves; Nasdaq jumps nearly 3%, Dow rises 400 points

US stocks rebounded sharply Thursday after a bruising start to the week, pushing the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average back into the black for the year.

The Nasdaq Composite rallied 3%, following the worst day for US tech stocks since 2011. Volatility has returned in force to the stock market this month, with bigger-than-normal intraday price swings.
