Van Wagoner settles fraud case with SEC

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has settled fraud charges against San Francisco-based Van Wagoner Capital Management and Garrett Van Wagoner, its high-profile president.

The firm, which invested heavily in technology shares prior to the stock market crash in 1999, allegedly lied about the values of their mutual funds and broke laws meant to protect investors.
