US venture capitalists raised $5.4bn (€4.5bn) for investments in the third quarter as fundraising remained set to rise for the third consecutive year.

The amount committed to 45 venture funds in the three months to September 30 represented a 12% increase on the $4.8bn collected by 54 funds during the same period last year, according to Thomson Venture Economics and the National Venture Capital Association.
