View: Boosting the City after Brexit is tougher than just giving a speech

Between the Brexit referendum and the UK’s effective departure from the EU at the end of last year, the City seemed to disappear from the government’s radar.

Firms struggled to get the attention of the most junior ministers, and this apparent lack of interest was reflected in the negotiations over the future trading relationship with the EU. Famously, there was more focus on fish than finance. The result: a deal in which financial services barely featured at all.
