For years, critics have argued that Credit Suisse should follow Swiss rival UBS by scaling back its investment bank more radically. For years, Credit Suisse has resisted pressure to emulate the dramatic reshaping UBS launched a decade ago.

Instead, Credit Suisse has implemented a series of cuts, often in reaction to trading setbacks, and recycled savings into its wealth management business.
