Wall Street faces reform after Spitzer's victory

Merrill Lynch has caved in to demands from Eliot Spitzer, the attorney general of New York, to disclose extra information about investment banking relationships in its equity research - paving the way for change across Wall Street.

Spitzer and Merrill reached an agreement late on Thursday in which the bank agreed to say in its research whether it expects to win business from companies the research covers - something the bank was fighting desperately to avoid.
