Mellon Financial, the US fund manager, has paid out shares worth £5m (€7.4m) to retain 25 employees at the UK firm it agreed to buy earlier this year.

Mellon announced the acquisition of Walter Scott & Partners, the Edinburgh-based fund manager, in May and it was completed yesterday.
