European stock exchanges are losing market share to alternative trading venues despite aggressive fee cuts

European stock exchanges are losing market share to alternative trading venues at the same rate as their main US counterpart, despite making aggressive fee cuts, according to research by the US Council on Foreign Relations.

Benn Steil, director of international economics at the CFR, found that European incumbents the London Stock Exchange, Euronext and Deutsche Börse are following their US peer the New York Stock Exchange in loss of market share.
