O'Neal warns Merrill staff to change or go

Stan O'Neal, the new chief executive of Merrill Lynch, has bluntly warned his managers that if they want to remain with the bank they must take greater all-round care of their businesses.

In an unusually candid speech made to senior Merrill employees, O'Neal said: "You own the whole thing... And if you're not willing to do that, not capable of doing it, then go do something else."
